Albuquerque Environmental Awards

• The March issued of Popular Science has rated Albuquerque as the 16th greenest city in America.  The basis of the rating was determined by the use of renewable energy, availability of high quality public transportation, the number of green building (certified by the US Green Building Council), recycling and how important its citizens consider environmental issues. 

• Albuquerque won the 2007 Climate Protection Award presented by the U.S. Conference of Mayors for the Albuquerque Green Program. This was the inaugural year of this award program. www.albuquerquegreen.com  
  

• Mayor Martin Chavez was the only mayor of a U.S. city to be invited to the global conference, "Citizens of the Earth": The Paris Conference for Global Ecological Governance, in February 2007.  

• Albuquerque won the 2006 World Leadership Award under the category of Utilities for its Sustainable Water Management Planning. The award was presented in London in December 2006.  (Go to  www.albuquerquegreen.com
